Cephlascape

by Mary Iampietro

This project is based on the idea that games can also function as art.  The squid game, entitled Cephlascape, is a board game that duals as a piece of art.  It is designed to be hung on a wall and then taken down for game play.  The board is made of pine and the design is burned into the wood using various tips on a wood burning tool.  The pieces, including the dice, are all made out of clay.  The effect created is one of earthiness and and enables the player to get back to the orgins of games, an idea I was inspired by throughout the course of this class. The rules are very simple.  Players move along the dots of the tentacles to avoid being "eaten."  The first one to the end wins.
